day 6 - 25 Days of wellness

Hey there! I’ve seen a couple of people I follow do Advent calendars for various things - 1000 Hours Outside has one for outdoor family activities, and Nutritious Movement has one for movement to create a “butt for the holidays” haha. So good.

So here we go - I’m going to drop a little post each day on a little Wellness tidbit for you to consider. Enjoy!

DAY 6 - constructive questions

Did you try the Body Scan? Comment on the IG or FB posts with your experiences - what did you notice???

Today we are going to dive deeper into CURIOSITY!

When we learn to observe our body, mind, heart, and environment with non-judgment and objective curiosity, we will begin to notice things we would not have with our “judgment” lenses on.

For example,

Have the questions, “why does this always happen to me?!” or “why can’t I just get my act together?” or “why am I just such an incapable human being?” ever improved your situation? These questions are LOADED with judgement and shame!

Constructive questions are questions that lead us through a positive process. We ask constructive questions to help us get into a state of curious observation so that we can create a new response in our bodies. I studied these with certified Alexander Technique teachers Mio Morales (Primal AlexanderTM) and Jennifer Roig-Francoli (The Art of Freedom).

Here are some examples:

PHYSICAL: Where in my body do I notice a little bit of ease?

MENTAL: What if this could be easy?

EMOTIONAL: What does this emotion feel like in my body?

When you ask these questions, do not worry too much about what the answer is. You may get an instant answer. You may not. Don’t try to reach for the answer, and especially don’t analyze whether or not the answer you do or do not get is the perfect one!

Neuroscience tells us that just asking the question triggers complex biochemistry throughout the whole body and effects a positive change. By pausing and interrupting our destructive mental/emotional processes with a question, we provide the body a chance to reset and choose a new way. This opens up many possibilities!

I can’t wait to hear what you discover trying these out.

See you on Day 7!
