day 9 - 25 Days of wellness
Hi there! I’ve seen a couple of people I follow do Advent calendars for various things - 1000 Hours Outside has one for outdoor family activities, and Nutritious Movement has one for movement to create a “butt for the holidays” haha. So good.
So here we go - I’m going to drop a little post each day on a little Wellness tidbit for you to consider. Enjoy!
DAY 9 - water
I hope you are seeing amazing shifts in your daily experience - how your body feels, what your thoughts are up to, which emotions you are feeling - after trying out the suggestions in this series! Today we are discussing water!
This topic is ESPECIALLY important for menstruating, expecting, and breastfeeding women - as their demand for fresh water intake is higher than normal to replenish fluids lost in menstruation, to handle the additional blood-volume inherent in gestating a child, and to produce sufficient breastmilk for a nursing baby.
Drink plenty of pure water. Dr. John R. Christopher recommended the average adult drink up to 1 gallon of water a day! This might be a crazy goal for some people, so let’s break this down in simple, actionable goals:
At least 3 quarts of water per day (or 1 fl oz per lb of body weight)
Distilled is preferred, as it will grab any mineral deposits hiding where they aren’t supposed to in the body; but it will not touch the minerals in the places where they DO belong.
Get your minerals from herbal teas and healthy food, which the body knows how to use and put into the right locations.
Trace Minerals brand is also an option for acute mineral deficiency, as they are in a form the body can assimilate.
Reverse Osmosis is a sufficient substitute for distilled water
Avoid carbonated drinks, as these put stress on the urinary system (that said, if you want something bubbly to celebrate with, consider kefir water or kombucha! I like G.T.’s kombucha because they use kiwi juice instead of sugar).
If you have access to a natural spring, it is possible that the water will be very good for you. Unfortunately even some spring water, often touted as “mineral water” may still have its minerals in a form that is considered “inorganic” or not usable by the body. I haven’t learned how to assess this yet if I ever happen upon a spring - let me know if you have!
See you on Day 10!
